Nancy and Douglas Umbach adopt 10 year-old Cassandra (Cassie)

August 31st, 2001

Cassandra attended Jennifer Craig's 24th birthday party in Ottawa

December 10th, 2004

Although in hospital for last time and only three days before her passing, Cassandra 'wrote' two letters in 2004 Write-a-thon.

Spring, 2004

Official opening of a new wing at Saint Vincent Hospital in Ottawa

Passed away on Monday, December 13, 2004 at the age of 27.

December 10th, 2003

Cassandra writes with help of friend, nine letters in support of Amnesty International's Letter Write-a-thon. Earlier that day, she had distributed, along with a friend, human rights candles at a busy intersection in Ottawa.

May, 2004

Cassandra attends the Annual General Meeting of Canadian chapter of Amnesty International.
